Meet Jacob
I feel overwhelmingly fortunate and grateful that my job is helping people pursue the sound that’s in their head. I have been chasing my own sounds for ages and picked up all kinds of quirky gadgets and tricks along the way.
I don’t think of myself as a recording or mix engineer really, although that is certainly what I am to some people. I dedicated my early teens to the guitar and my late teens to writing songs and at some point along the way the sounds I was looking for began to require a more technical skillset, so I started producing my own music and eventually began to produce for other people. By some bizarre stroke of fortune, I turned out to be quite useful in that role and now people trust me with their sound - whether with writing, recording, production, or mixing.
In those ways I have been able to contribute to projects that have received some really positive attention and sometimes from quite a lot of people. That can be really exciting, but for me it’s not as exciting as having a new project to work on in my studio - and people to work with and new sounds to find!
